The Visions

The first vision took her completely by surprise. She thought they would happen in her dreams at night, as they usually did. But she was awake, sweeping her front steps in the middle of the day, when this one actually occurred.

There was no denying its authenticity, though.

Something made her stop sweeping and look up. Did the sound come first or the image? She never could remember afterwards. She only knew that a light-colored horse suddenly appeared, galloping down the dirt road in front of her property. A shadowy figure sat astride the horse, but she could make out no other details. The image persisted for a few seconds and then abruptly disappeared. She stood still, scanning from the east to the west, but saw nothing at all, not even any dust that should have been kicked up. There was only an unnatural stillness in the air and a leaden cast to the sky. Is this how all of us will see it? Or will it appear differently to everyone? she wondered briefly to herself...
